Some 67.5 percent of Germans expressed opposition to having closer ties with the United States following the latest US visit by German Chancellor Angela Merkel who has made deepening transatlantic relations a top priority of her foreign policy.
According to an opinion poll released on Friday by the private German Television Station Kabel 1, only 30 percent of Germans back boosting US-German ties while 2.5 percent said they remained indifferent.
Merkel has twice visited America over the past four months.
