We owed the kids a meal at the Kosher Pizza Shop as a reward for something, so we went yesterday and there was a mob-scene there. I was wondering out loud to my wife what the reason was for the large crowd: "Perhaps they feel that even though Thanksgiving is not specifically a Jewish holiday, they should still do something a little special to participate in hakaras hatov to the Eibishter for the freedom Jews have experienced in ths country. After all, Rav Moshe Feinstein and Rav Soleveitchik pasken that you can celebrate Thanksgiving. Others feel that Thanksgiving is Mamash Avodah Zarah and what better way to renounce and repudiate Thanksgiving than to eat something milchig."
My wife replied, "Nah, the husband was off from work, the kids were home, so they went to the Pizza Shop. These places are busy Thursday night anyway."
