This is a complete article:
U.S. President George W. Bush, who is currently in Saint Petersburg for the G8 summit, refused to ask Israel to stop attacks on Lebanon, saying on Sunday: "Our message to Israel is defend yourself, but be mindful of the consequences, so we are urging restraint."
While most countries are appealing for a truce and have accused Israel of disproportionate use of force after the abduction of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah on Wednesday, such a statement by Bush and his like-minded envoy to the UN, John Bolton, who blocked a Security Council resolution against the attack on Lebanon on Friday, leaves little doubt that the U.S. is an accomplice in the attack and could care less about the tragedy unfolding in Lebanon, which has barely emerged from the Israeli-instigated civil war and occupation.
Unlike a certain Islamist militia which has had weapons lavished on it by the country whose press produced this article.
The U.S. blocked the UN Security Council resolution despite the fact that Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Siniora talked to Bush on the phone on Thursday, asking him to put pressure on Israel to stop the savage attacks on the tiny state.
If Bush would have seen with his eyes how eighteen civilians, including nine children, were burnt alive in a helicopter gunship attack, would he have again said that Israel has the “right to defend itself”? If so, then God should have mercy on us all. In Saint Petersburg, Condoleezza Rice also rejected calls for a truce, saying not addressing the underlying causes of the conflict might make things worse.
"We want a sustainable cessation of violence."
Yes, she is quite right and there is no solution other than addressing the root causes of the problem in the region. But what is the root cause of the problem?
Rice cunningly avoids mentioning the real causes of the problem, the occupation and eviction of the original residents, and the fact that this must be addressed to solve the problem. So, if she claims to know any other solution for permanent peace, she should inform the world.
If the war crimes against the Lebanese and Palestinians continue, then those sitting in the White House, the UN Security Council, and European Union headquarters in Brussels will witness more radical approaches in the region and the world, and the U.S., whose forces are bogged down in Iraq, may experience more losses.
Such stances by the U.S., which is in extreme need of close cooperation with regional countries to halt terrorist attacks and sectarian strife in Iraq, are quite unhelpful. Moreover, such a policy will disappoint Iraqi officials.
The U.S. claims it seeks to promote democracy in the region, but such naked support for Israel while it commits such outrages will only backfire and fan the flames of extremism and violence.
The terrorist attacks on the London underground that left 56 innocent people dead during last year’s G8 summit in Britain should be fresh in the memory of Mr. Bush and his friends. Unfortunately, this year more tragic events are taking place committed by one state against another. So, the situation is worse than last year, especially after Bush dashed all hopes that a united stance could emerge from the G8 summit to bring an end to this situation.
The escalation of aggression since last year could be met with more deadly reciprocation by the terrorists. Thus, Western countries must definitely revise their strategies.
By continuing such unthoughtful, uncaring, bullying, and merciless policies, the United States will become more and more hated in the eyes of the world, a situation that will be difficult to remedy and could result in harm to U.S. citizens who have no role in such policies.
Note the implied threat.
