An extremely biased signed news article, essentially an editorial:
Even after so many years of fighting, Mr. Areny said, Israel had again misunderstood the Palestinian mind.
And what sort of action would flow from understanding "the Palestinian mind"?
He and others here believe the military campaign is aimed less at fighters than at making Palestinians' lives so miserable that they turn against their government, which is now run by the militant group Hamas.
And if "he and others" believe it, it must be true, right?
Hamas's military wing led the attack into Israel last Sunday in which the soldier was captured.
"I don't like the government, but in these circumstances I will support it," said Mr. Areny, a member of Fatah, Hamas's rival. "I cannot stand with the Israelis against our people."
He "doesn't like" the government? Right, he belongs to the other terrorist group. You know which one I'm talking about? The one with the "Martyr's Brigade"? In a sane world the Palestinians would simply need to decide whether Gaza is their population center or their base for Qassam launchings and other military operations. If this NY Times article represents the sort of sympathy they are going to be getting, then we may see a quick return to the same old babble about a "looming humanitarian crisis" as the Qassams rain down.
