Has anyone noticed that Israel's nuclear weapons have never led to a nuclear arms-race in the Middle East? I have never seen any serious doubt that Israel has nukes. On one hand, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that Israel's neighbors, however much they resent Israel's presence, see Israel as a responsible nuclear power. On the other hand, now that Iran is forging ahead with its nuclear program, Egypt and Saudi Arabia are talking, for the first time, about going nuclear themselves. The contrast couldn't be more striking.
