Mehr News: "Ayatollah Lankarani warns of superpowers’ plots against Muslims"

Some of the less familiar Ayatollahs offer the same old deadeningly repetitive rhetoric:
The latest U.S. plan in Iraq will fail more scandalously, Ayatollah Mohammad Fazel Lankarani said on Friday.

“The U.S. efforts to cheat the Arab and Islamic countries are a great threat to Islam and all Islamic states,” the grand cleric said in a meeting with Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani and a group of religious ulema in Qom.

On January 10 U.S. President George W. Bush announced a new strategy for Iraq, including a 21,500 increase in troop numbers.

Ayatollah Lankarani said it is necessary that Muslims form a unity against superpowers.

“The Shia school is not a danger to the region,” he said, adding that the Shia ideology is based on logic and respect to the rights of all nations and groups.

“The Sunnis and Shias should be aware that the U.S. and Israel seek to demolish the foundation of Islam,” he warned.

Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpayegani called on the officials to act vigilantly and wisely in the international arena to thwart the enemy plots.

Larijani said the United States and Israel seek to sow seeds of discord among Shia and Sunni, stressing the need for the Marja taqlids (References of Emulation for Shias) to guide the Muslims to maintain unity.
And meanwhile at Fars News: "Religious Scholars Play Effective Role in Defusing Enemy Plots":
Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani in a meeting with Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani in the central city of Qom on Friday stressed the need for Muslim vigilance under the present sensitive conditions.

He said that Muslim Ullemma (scholars and jurisprudents) play a very effective role in encountering the conspiracies of the enemies who seek to sow discord between Muslim Shiites and Sunnites.

Larijani further pointed to the United States' new adventurism in Iraq, and said that the US and Israel are seeking to sow seeds of discord between the Shiites and Sunnites, reiterating the need for the protection of Muslim solidarity and unity through boosting of the Muslims' vigilance by the Ulemma.

He further briefed the Ayatollah about the recent developments in Iran's nuclear issue as well as the activities and measures adopted by Iran's nuclear team.

For his part, Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani stressed the need for safeguarding Muslim solidarity and unity.

Larijani is now on a tour of the holy city of Qom to meet Iran's senior religious jurisprudents and scholars.
