Chai Elul and 9/11

As Akiva at Mystical Paths points out, this year Chai Elul and the secular date anniversary of 9/11 fall out on the same day. (The original twin-towers attack was on Elul 23 in the Jewish Calendar.) Chai Elul, the 18th of Elul, is the birthday of the Ba'al Shem Tov, the founder of the Chassidic Movement in general and Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad Chassidus. There will be a Farbrengen, a Chassidic gathering, at most Chabad Houses and Chabad Centers tonight. Contact one near you for the times and other details if you like the idea of an evening of eating, drinking, singing, and inspirational speeches. Because of how things fall out this year, there will probably be some discussion of the significance of 9/11 as well.
