IRNA: "President honors service of journalists on `Journalists' Day'"


Talk about timely!
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad here Sunday afternoon felicitated Iranian journalists on the eve of Journalists' Day on Tuesday (August 8).

Journalists' Day has annually been observed to coincide with the martyrdom anniversary of an IRNA correspondent who was killed in line of duty in Afghanistan in 1998.

Mahmoud Saremi, along with 10 Iranian diplomats, were killed when Taliban forces stormed the Iranian consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan, where they were based.

Addressing a cabinet session, President Ahmadinejad expressed hope Iranian journalists would serve as examples of Muslims who remember God and uphold the rich Islamic culture and teachings in the fulfillment of their duties.
In a related development Reuters was named Honorary Islamic Republic News Agency.
