On Saturday, a group of Iranian university students carried the coffin of the United Nations in a symbolic funeral procession in front of the UN office in Tehran.
This protest actually arose from the depths of the hearts of the world’s nations because the UN Security Council’s support of Israel during the Zionist regime’s one-month assault on the Lebanese nation has brought the credibility of the international body into question.
The Security Council, which has become a puppet in the hands of the major powers, has proven that it has lost the legitimacy required to resolve major international crises and that its resolutions are not worthy of being implemented.
Resolution 1701, which was issued after a one-month delay, will exacerbate regional crises rather than help resolve the situation in Lebanon.
The recent resolution will also pave the way for Israel to continue its atrocities against the Lebanese and Palestinian nations.
Resolution 1701 not only fails to mention the Zionists’ savage attack on the defenseless Lebanese nation but also does not set a deadline for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.
In fact, the resolution has stipulated that the Zionists can determine when the war should end, although it is the duty of the Security Council to call on both sides to put an end to all military operations within 24 hours.
Another issue neglected in Resolution 1701 is the need to establish a fact-finding committee to assess the damage inflicted on Lebanon, identify the aggressor, and supervise the unconditional withdrawal of the Israeli army from southern Lebanon.

Tehran Times: "Resolution 1701, death knell for UN?"
Here is another Iranian reaction to 1701. This one is negative. (I rather like the "coffin of the United Nations" part.)
