IRNA: "Iran never uses its consulates for non-diplomatic purposes"

Glad that was clarified. I was wondering.
Iran never uses its consulates for non-diplomatic purposes and the US allegation against Iranian diplomats working at Iran Consulate in Arbil, Iraq is categorically unfounded, a senior military officer said on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief of General Headquarters of the Armed Forces Brigadier General Alireza Afshar said that the United States has violated diplomatic immunity of the Consulate and fabricated the allegation to evade international accountability.

"Iran advocates peace and stability in Iraq and there is no reason to support the terrorists," he said.

The US troops invaded Iranian Consulate in Arbil using helicopters on January 11 and kidnapped Iranian diplomats serving at the site.

He deplored that the international community has kept silent on US action violating diplomatic immunity and said that a handful adventurists at the US Administration have driven the international community towards insecurity to serve so-called the US interests.

Afshar said that the US is responsible for the chaotic situation in Iraq by stirring up sectarian violence in Iraq and that the Israeli intelligence agents are operating there in disguise of US officers to trigger conflict between Shia and Sunni Muslims.

"In light of the fact that the majority of Iraqi government officials are Shia Muslims and any insecurity in Iraq will jeopardize sovereignty of the Iraqi government. Therefore, it will be unwise to support terrorism in Iraq," the senior officer added.

He said that the US Administration has got entangled in Iraq and is looking for scapegoat for failure of its militaristic approach in the Middle East.
